Crimson Tide

Yes, it’s a Hollywood submarine drama but Crimson Tide is deeper than most in the genre.

Not as claustrophobic as the unmatched Das Boot; but as a study of two big personalities (and big stars) clashing, it’s a pressure cooker in its own right.

Denzel Washington’s analytical, cautious Executive Officer is slapped down by Gene Hackman’s boorish and impulsive Captain – dividing the crew’s loyalties, in obvious and less obvious ways.

A good yarn, well told.
